About The Program

This is a Cultural Enrichment program centered on Music and Drama for young children ages three to six. (Starting age is three or nearly three, potty-trained, and children should be definitely ready for a group classroom situation one day a week for one hour and forty-five minutes.)

The Gant Sisters' music education program (originally created by them at the University of Missouri/Kansas City - Conservatory of Music in the early 1960's and now a highly successful music program for young children) is designed to give young children as complete an exposure to music as their ages will allow. Although it is a structured program, the structure is very carefully camouflaged. In keeping with this philosophy, it is important for the children to look forward to each of the activities - from Bach, Beethoven, and the eighth note, to the violin, stage work, puppets, etc., without fear or pressure, stress or strain.

Children attend classes one day a week - for one hour and forty-five minutes. The school year consists of two 14-week semesters - Fall Semester and Spring Semester. Total tuition for each semester: $195.00, (less than $7/hour.)

The first hour is devoted entirely to Music, followed by a brief break for refreshments (cookie party) and the last part of the class is drama/theatre time! During the first hour there is much singing and ear training. Almost all of the songs the children sing are The Gant Sisters' own songs they have written and recorded for the children. The music is full of love to uplift the children and encourage them to reach out to each other and to the world with love. Children will work with rhythmic activities, instruments of the orchestra, classical composers (children really do love classical music!) and music theory. Each week the children take home their music theory papers, which feature the particular music note the children are studying for the week. This preparation takes the children into the first steps of learning to 'read music'.

Cookie Party! (Parents are requested to notify us of any food allergies, etc.)

Drama/Theater Time. During this time the children 'dress up' in very simple costumes (provided by the studio) and perform for each other the 'operetta' they are studying for the semester - on the miniature stage in the classroom! (The red velvet show curtains trimmed in gold fringe help to create a magical atmosphere in which the children are eager to step into the spotlight and perform!) Showtime is another time in which the children select their favorite 'Gant Sisters' song to sing in the microphone! Children take turns, or perform in groups for each other, looking forward to enthusiastic bravos from their little classmates! Great fun! (Children are never forced to perform on the stage, or to participate in any activity. Instead, we try to create an atmosphere in which the children can hardly wait to be a part of the activities! No stress- the emphasis is on the joy and love of music!)

In spite of exposure to so many of the academics of music, the purpose of the program is not to create 'little Beethovens', but to plant seeds for the future so that music will always be a beautiful part of the children's lives!
